Gift of the magi and The necklace are similar in a lot of ways,  but they are also really different. Gift of the magi is about a  poor woman who cuts off almost all of her hair so she can get her husband a chain for his watch, little does Della (the women) know her husband sold his watch to get her some really nice and expensive combs. This is ironic because she cut off her hair and he got her combs and she got him a chain and he sold his watch for the combs.
